What is the HBF survey and why it's important...

The Home Buyers Federation is big business for developers. The responses from the surveys they issue a couple of months after completion gives the Stars (1-5) on their flags and provides an NPS score. The two key questions asked in the survey are:

1) Whether you'd recommend the builder to a friend?
2) Rate the service out of 10

The first question is what indicates their stars out of 5. To be a 5 star builder, they have to get 90%+ of customers saying “yes” to this question. As you may know, Bovis are a 2 star builder because the majority of their customers said “no”! See the attached pic for the rating of your builder.
The second question of scoring out of 10 is the NPS score and this is important for the company's performance on the stock market. Why? Well it is the key performance indicator for reassurance investors are backing a good reputable company for the long run.
The importance for YOU is that it is therefore very important for your developer to make you happy within the first couple of months so that you score them well. This 2 month period after completion is without doubt the best time to get your snagging inspection carried out on your new build home.

Not really a surprise that Bovis are a 2 star builder. I was part of the 0/10 and 'no' group
Good informative article

"I always insist that there is specific provision for snagging," says Thomas Moran, partner at law firm Speechly Bircham. "Reputable developers do this anyway, but there are all sorts in the market, some big, some small, so you need a contractual promise than within, say, a year they will come back to remedy any minor defects in the finishing."
